Dr. Stern has captured the true insight into Gaslighting and exposes it's effects! Wow - what an eyeopener to something I have lived with from my abusive mother to my (recovering) alcoholic husband!! I have been a member of Al-Anon for 45 years and wished I had this information sooner to further my recovery - this has been the missing piece. The book has given me hope and I will pass this information on to others who are recovering from alcoholic relationships. We need to heal regardless if the alcoholic find sobriety or not and this book with help with the emotional hold that the drinker has over the spouse. This new understanding will take us out of the emotional bondage and gives us the tool to direct us on a new path of recovery.

The only reason I wasn't able to give 5-stars is because I found myself occasionally asking myself: "is this gaslighting/manipulation or just someone having a vulnerable moment?". Living in a culture where words can be misused, I appreciate the book for going in depth with the definition and various examples. It's definitely a enlightening self-help guide and will allow you not only awareness of others, but yourself.

It is incredible how we humans act on this great stage of life. Why can't we be more honest and open with each other? Life would be so much more simple and more meaningful if we were.

Another I haven't finished. It has definitely been good and helpful. While I understand that it is written from the author's point of view it seems relatively one sided so far by the author's use of the person being gaslighted always being female and the abuser/gaslighter always being male. Having said that I have not finished as stated above and that may change later on and if so I will happily move my review up to a 4 or even 5 star review.
