August 31, 2024What is the point of upgrading a factory head unit? Presumably, you would want to get more features, better ease-of-use, and improved stability over a stock head unit. The AVH-2550NEX has idatalink integration, so it will replace stock head units that typically already have Android Auto / Carplay. Compared to uConnect in a 2020 Jeep, the Android Auto that this head unit provides is significantly worse. The video seems to go through some analog passthrough so the video is dim and somewhat fuzzy (as opposed to the Pioneer UI that is clear and sharp). The touch screen when in Android Auto mode is less responsive than the Pioneer interface (e.g., dragging the map doesn't really work) and often fails to respond to button presses. WebLink is a pointless joke. The worst part is that the whole reason to buy this unit is to have CD capability, but Pioneer fails again. It doesn't support CD text. This unit doesn't show time remaining in songs in any mode (USB, CD, Android Auto). My stock head unit did a great job at playing USB audio files. This Pioneer only plays songs from albums in alphabetical order (seriously!!) and is nightmarishly slow even at that. Pioneer's own cheap DEH-S4220BT supports CD text, plays USB albums properly, and supports MIXTRAX. It even has a spectrum analyzer. The AVH-2550NEX represents a significant downgrade from my 5 year old stock uConnect -- I literally do not see the point of this product existing.

April 19, 2024I will start by saying I am very pleased with the quality of the sound and the features of this head unit. Highly recommend this as a replacement for your factory installed head unit especially if yours was as old as mine. I installed this unit using the PAC RP5-GM11 radio replacement Interface. The unit uses my existing amplifier for sound which is just wonderful. I also installed a backup camera that uses this interface. The backup camera automatically comes on when I put my Tahoe in reverse showing on the AVH-2550NEX display. The video is perfect. This head unit added Bluetooth® phone integration for both handsfree calling and music playback without even plugging my iPhone into anything which is very convenient. Plugging my iPhone into the 58" USB extension cable that comes with the unit enabled Apple CarPlay which is awesome! Waze navigation right on the display! The PAC interface retained all my steering controls, so the install makes the whole thing look and work like a GM factory install. This head unit even has a remote control which is nice to have even though I don't use it much.

June 5, 2024I see that Pioneer is trying to make up for lost sales during the pandemic. This head unit is five years old and yet it is being sold as if it was brand new. Reading the reviews, which happen to be discouraging.
I purchased and installed a Pioneer DVD head unit in 2014 and it continues to work today. The reason for the switch out is because I wanted a larger screen. My current unit is 6.2 and I wanted a 6. 75 screen or larger.
This head unit does not offer USB-C Connectivity. it would not be compatible with the USB-A to USB-C conversion for charging. The iPhone 15 Pro Max nerds 30 watts to charge. This head unit only provides 1.5 V that’s not nearly enough to charge this phone.
Contrary to popular belief, SACD is a popular disk format. Just as vinyl records a.k.a. LP‘s have made their come back. What I am waiting on, is for Pioneer to design a Blu-ray player in their head units. Blu-ray discs can hold more information. Thereby providing improved audio and video quality.
I will be returning this head unit. With so much going on in the world, I don’t need additional headaches.

July 4, 20242014 Wrangler - gaps around the edges. Only bluetooths the phone, not any of the music apps. You must use the USB for music apps on the phone. Sounds fantastic while in park. While driving it is super scratchy. I thought it was the antenna, but the CD and music apps were also scratchy. I called the tech support while installing and followed their instructions. Still sounds terrible while driving. The mic works really good for phone calls though. When I put the car in reverse, it automatically changes the screen to a backup camera - too bad I don't have one so it's just a black screen with guide lines. If Crutchfield techs can't figure out the issue with the antenna warning popping up for all inputs, I'm going to see about returning this. I'm not impressed!
