Revolutionary Understanding of Mental Health
Full Remission· Review provided by booktopia.com.au · June 10, 2023
I found the work of Dr Palmer in trying to research ways to treat my own emerging psychotic disorder.
After much research, I decided to buy this book to consolidate what I began to learn about use of the Ketogenic Diet in treating psychotic disorders. Dr Palmer pulls together his theory of brain energy and the role that cell mitochondria disfunction plays in Mental Health disorders (including psychotic disorders) and other metabolic disorders like diabetes, alzeimers etc. He also outlines the simple & critical actions we can take to ensure mitochondrial health and recovery, and therefore recovery of our mental and physical well-being.

The insight & support that this information has given me has helped me to completely turn my life around & recover so much of my functioning over the last 5 months (using the Ketogenic Diet among other strategies outlined in the book) & it's the most cohesive theory on mental health I've come across in the 27 years I've been searching for answers to tackle my own mental health difficulties.

I'd never even dream of writing an online book review before but here I am! For me personally, finding this Dr and the work he is doing has changed my life & given me so much hope for the future. Mental Health Disorders as Metabolic disorders of the brain makes every sense to me now and I won't be surprised if very soon, the mainstream approach to mental health recovery comes into line with this book & Brain Energy Theory.

I originally bought this book from the US as there weren't any Australian retailers selling it at that time. I've just ordered two more copies from Booktopia as I've already given my original copy away to a dear friend in need (and likely will again!) as I believe everyone who is struggling with their mental and/or physical health will benefit from reading it.
Finally Mankind makes headway into treating mental illnesses

Read this from cover to cover. Found out the science behind lo-carb diets and exercise - among other treatments - and how it affects mitochondria.
Shows insight into the research on how many illnesses can be due to mitochondrial mis-function and what can be done about it.
Written by a top psychiatrist.

This could be one of the most important pieces of work that helps us find the obvious link between nutrition and mental health - hundreds of hours of therapy , and thousands of dollars on drugs could be saved , and lifetimes of distress …. How you feel effects what you eat and what you eat effects how you feel ?
Great book, groundbreaking concepts.

Scholarly yet accessible writing. This is a very important book. I hope it revolutionizes mental health care.
