Great for anyone studying/interpreting material culture.

I purchased this for a college history course, American Material Culture. The book is short and easy to read, and provides information on how to interpret a piece of material culture. The author uses interesting information to keep the reader interested. The book was controversial at the time of its publication because the author argues that the written word should not be the only source that historians or researchers use to interpret an event or time period; material artifacts provide much additional information that can either support or contradict written historical accounts. If the reader is interested in history, he will find this book interesting and will likely find its argument influential in how he approaches artifacts from the past.
I haven't read it all yet
