Gravitational Waves by Tomás Saraceno at Kattevennen, Genk
The internationally renowned artist created a new site-specific installation – inspired by the spider’s web – for De Unie Hasselt-Genk, a project for art in the public space by the Province of Limburg, initiated by Z33.
Tomás Saraceno’s (b.1973, Argentina, lives and works in Berlin) oeuvre can be seen as an ongoing research informed by the worlds of art, architecture, natural sciences, astrophysics and engineering; his floating sculptures, community projects and interactive installations propose and explore new, sustainable ways of inhabiting and sensing the environment.
Tomás Saraceno has a great fascination for the atmosphere, neural networks, cloud formations and the spider’s web. Saraceno perceives the incredibly complex structure of the spider’s web as a metaphor for the connection between all that lives and survives, from the miniscule to the enormous.
Gravitational Waves fits in naturally within the surroundings of Kattevennen and the Cosmodrome, one of the six entrance gates to the National Park Hoge Kempen, in which microcosm and macrocosm meet.
PRACTICAL INFORMATION
Gravitational Waves can be admired in Kattevennen National Park in Genk. It is located in the vicinity of the reception building.
