We so enjoyed our Christmas at Stoneacre in Leenane. Everything suited us. The situation is spectacular, it’s hard to imagine a better view, we so enjoyed sitting and watching the weather change, seeing the sun set and the moon rise. It was perfect for my elderly mother who enjoyed looking out and was delighted to be staying next to the village church.
Having two sitting rooms also ensured there was plenty of space for everyone. The house was warm but it was fun to make a fire too.
This isn’t an anonymous rental furnished with IKEA which suited us. The house has character and comfort and we thought it was well equipped and generously provisioned. It was like staying in a tasteful friend’s home.
Overall highly recommended. Liz was easy to contact and Conor who deals with the property in person couldn’t have been more helpful.
The only caveat for some might be getting used to using the Aga(traditional stove) but we used it with no difficulties at all.
Great stay and thanks for having us.
Liz’s home is the perfect place for a quiet respite in a breathtakingly beautiful setting. It was wonderful to begin and end our days with the stunning view directly from the front porch.
Liz is a great hostess- she communicated regularly and responded quickly to any questions, as well as offering helpful suggestions for our time in the area.
We highly recommend her home to anyone wanting a beautiful space of their own for their time in Connemara.

Lots of room for 4-6 people, just a kilometer from all basic needs in a small, lovely town amidst spectacular scenery. Comfortable and well stocked, phenomenal view of Ireland's only fjord, near boat rides and convenient to reach all of Connemara and western Irish towns. Best of all, nearby manager, Connor, to advise and assist, excellent experience.
We really enjoyed our stay at Stoneacre, DESPITE a week of Connemara's grayest, rainiest weather all spring (according to locals). The main gathering space has huge windows that overlook the east end of Killary Fjord. Watching the clouds and light play over the water and surrounding mountains is mesmerizing and relaxing. Better than any screen time!
The house is large and well-kept and comfy. We loved cooking on the Aga (not necessary for any trepidacious American cooks) once it was up and running. Instant hot water showers take a bit of fussing with to get to the perfect shower volume and temperature. The garden is lovely, and so are the local trails.
Go, relax, enjoy!
What a wonderful property! We stayed a week and enjoyed touring around the area. A cruise on Killary Fjord, Kylemore Abbey, Connemara Cultural Center, Connemara Heritage Center, a ferry to Inishmore to see Dun Aonghasa, Knockbrack Tomb near Cleggan, Aughnanure Castle, the Quiet Man Bridge and eating muscles at Hamiton's. Beautiful sunsets and evenings that were ever changing! Thanks for the great accommodations!
