Hot pink was a wildly popular shade at the autumn/winter 2022 shows. You only need to look to Valentino for evidence: Pierpaolo Piccioli made a bold fashion statement with his almost entirely pink collection, of which 48 looks were zingy fuchsia. He staged his happy-making show against a matching backdrop that some Instagrammers compared to the Werk Room on Ru Paul’s Drag Race. (The similarities are uncanny.)

Mary Ukech opened the show wearing a sculpting off-the-shoulder look complete with slinky, skin-tight gloves, while later on Mona Tougaard glided down the runway in a ruffled, sheer, floor-sweeping shirt and tailored trousers. Clara Mdee followed in feathers, Jeanne Cadieu wore a smart boiler suit, and Kristen McMenamy shut down the catwalk in a finale gown that Valentino fans will be fighting over come awards season. Zendaya even dressed for the occasion in peppy pink suiting in the same colour as the cut-out minidress she wore in the Valentino Rendez Vous campaign.
Flashes of fuchsia arrived at Emilia Wickstead, Eudon Choi, GCDS, Michael Kors, Eckhaus Latta, Lanvin and Dolce & Gabbana. At Loewe, Molly Goddard and Richard Quinn, it was all about attention-grabbing gowns. Jonathan Anderson debuted a juicy dress with a lip-smackingly good bodice, Molly turned her signature smock dresses hot pink, and Richard Quinn dressed Irina Shayk in a demure caped dress.
Keen to adopt hot pink into your own wardrobe? Look to Prada for inspiration. Raf Simons and Miuccia Prada’s co-designed collection made a case for excellent coats – the leathery purple-pink belted trench is on our wish list. Elsewhere, sumptuous crushed velvet fabrics were seen at Vetements. Donatella got the pink memo, too. Versace autumn/winter 2022 was awash with pops of colour on silky pink corsets and boned dresses.

Away from the catwalk, celebrities are fuelling the hot pink movement. Rihanna announced her pregnancy in a vintage Barbie-coloured Chanel coat and baggy jeans, while Kim Kardashian has taking a shining to Balenciaga’s searingly-bright looks. She’s been photographed in Demna’s sporty asymmetric puffer coat, and she hosted Saturday Night Live in a velvet catsuit, gloves and knife boots.
