More than 50 staff at one of Scotland’s renowned world heritage sites are to lose their jobs.

Employees of the New Lanark Trust were called to a meeting via the Zoom video platform with Scott McCauley, the chief executive, on Monday and told that their posts were at risk. Mr McCauley did not have his camera on.

“He didn’t even show his face, but none of us were surprised by his behaviour,” said one worker.

Within minutes of the meeting’s conclusion, staff began to receive phone calls confirming the redundancy plan.
