Where?
On a meander of the Thames between Hammersmith and Brentford, Chiswick is an affluent west London enclave covering more than two square miles and encompassing four ancient villages north of the river: Turnham Green, Little Sutton, Strand-on-the-Green and Old Chiswick itself.
Why?
Chiswick’s Victorian and Edwardian homes and leafy green spaces have long attracted families and the glitterati. Famous residents have included the actor Colin Firth and Pete Townshend of the Who, as well as William Hogarth, EM Forster and WB Yeats. Yeats spent much of his young life among the “pavements grey” in Bedford Park, the world’s first garden suburb, designed by the renowned Victorian architect Norman Shaw.
