The Sound of Music’s Gretl von Trapp actress Kym Karath is unrecognisable 56 years on from role that shot her to fame
IT'S been a whopping 56 years since we were first introduced to The Sound of Music, a musical movie filled to the brim with songs we all still remember fondly.
The classic film stars Julie Andrews as Maria Augusta, a nun-in-training, who leaves the convent in order to become a nanny for a wealthy family.
Shortly after arriving at Captain Von Trapp's huge home, she is introduced to his seven children, who end up becoming her step-children after Maria and the Captain later fall in love.
The Von Trapp siblings consist of five daughters and two sons; Liesel von Trapp, Friedrich von Trapp, Louisa von Trapp, Kurt von Trapp, Brigitta von Trapp, Marta von Trapp, and the youngest of the bunch, Gretl von Trapp.
The adorable blonde child was played by Kym Karath, who was seven years old at the time.
Despite her being the movie's youngest star, she definitely wasn't a new face to acting, and had worked alongside Henry Fonda in Spencer's Mountain at the tender age of three.
Kym is now 64 years old and is still rocking the blonde locks.
With fair skin, blonde hair and blue eyes, it might come as a surprise that she is of Greek heritage, with her father shortening their family surname to Karath from Karathanasis.
Kym was born in Los Angeles, California, and went on to attend the University of Southern California years after her acting career took off thanks to the Sound of Music.
She graduated with a degree in Humanities, whilst acting around her studies.
Shortly after, Kym relocated to Paris and worked as a model alongside studying art history.
She found love over in France and wed her first husband Phillippe L'Equilbec in 1983, aged 26.
They had their son together in 1991, who is called Eric, and is now 30-years-old.
Kym married again in May 2016, to her current husband Jeff Apple, and tweeted about the big day.
She wrote: "A wedding pic from our special day in May , with my groom Jeff Apple , and our lovely wedding party."
