Even if you haven't seen the summer blockbuster Suicide Squad, you're more than likely familiar with its breakout character Harley Quinn, played by Margot Robbie — the baseball-bat-carrying former psychiatrist whose pink and blue pigtails are impossible to shake from memory. (And, if you're somehow not, you will be by the time Halloween rolls around and everyone is dressed as her.) Margot's role was widely regarded as the gem of the movie, and, soon, we will be seeing a lot more of her.

That's because she has just inked a first-look producing deal with Warner Bros. and her debut project is a spin-off movie centered around her character Harley Quinn, The Hollywood Reporter reports. The film, which Margot will be executive producing and will release through her LuckyChap Entertainment banner, will also include other DC heroines.

It will be a part of a new lineage of female-focused films from the Hollywood studio's Emerging Film Directors Workshop, that also includes the upcoming Wonder Woman, directed by Patty Jenkins, and an all-female take on Ocean's 11 dubbed Ocean's Ocho, which stars Rihanna, Mindy Kaling, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter, Sandra Bullock, and Cate Blanchett. The fact that the Harley Quinn spin-off is opening new doors for women in film is one more reason to be excited about it.
