Pope Francis, who succeeded Pope Benedict XVI in 2013, is known for his humility and attention to the poor. His vehicles, or “popemobiles,” reflect these traits. He ditched the more opulent Mercedes and luxury cars of his predecessors for vehicles with a connection to the home country he is visiting. He prefers more open vehicles so as not to be cut off from the people.
