signed, inscribed and dated Pour Bernard Ries ce no. V de vingt boites-en-valise contenant chacune 69 items et un original et par Marcel Duchamp New York Sept. 1942 (on the interior of the box); stamped bernard j. Ries and numbered no. V/XX (on the interior of the valise); signed, dated and inscribed Coloriage original Marcel Duchamp 1937 (on Mariée)

original leather valise containing the original hand-colored collotype (Mariée) and sixty-eight miniature replicas and reproductions in black and white and in colors by Marcel Duchamp mounted on the original paper and contained within the box

Valise: 16 ⅛ by 14 ⅝ by 4 ⅛ in. 41 by 37.3 by 10.5 cm.

Box: 15 ½ by 13 ⅝ by 3 in. 39.5 by 34.5 by 7.6 cm.

Mariée: 12 by 7 ½ in. 30.3 by 19 cm.

Conceived in 1935-40; this example was assembled in New York in September 1942.


The authenticity of this work has been confirmed by the Association Marcel Duchamp.
