What is it like to be a pole vaulter? Thanks to a GoPro camera and pole vaulter Allison Stokke, we now have a behind-the-scenes look at the incredible strength and skill required to fly over the bar.
Stokke makes pole vaulting look effortless, but we know it’s not. She has to be strong enough to spring her body up but light enough to coast over the bar, plus 100% fearless. “Everyone says we pole vaulters are crazy…and I have to agree,” Stokke says in the clip below. (Crazy. And FIT. The SELF editors are collectively jealous of those abs.)
The video was part of a department-wide challenge issued by the GoPro media team. The goal: To create something that hasn’t been seen before. And this epic video does just that—it gives you an even deeper appreciation of the skill and boldness required from these athletes.
