Things to do in Perth

Just over an hour’s drive from your Loch Lomond Waterfront accommodation, you’ll find the historic city of Perth. A perfect day trip from Loch Lomond! Perth was the capital of Scotland until the 15th century and has many fascinating attractions and things to do.

Castles and Palaces

With its royal connections, there is no shortage of castles and palaces around Perth. Scone Palace, to the north of the city centre, is one of the most famous palaces in Scotland. Scone (pronounced “Scoon”) was once the crowning-place of the Kings of Scots and home to the Stone of Destiny. Then there’s Huntingtontower Castle, a 15th-century house, which once hosted Mary Queen of Scots, while on honeymoon with Lord Darnley. Also Elcho Castle, another lordly house, built for the wealthy Wemyss family in 1560. One of the best surviving tower houses in Scotland.

Museums and Galleries

The Black Watch Castle and Museum is one of the top museums in Perth. It tells the fascinating story of The Black Watch, a Highland regiment which has played an important part in Scottish military history since its formation in 1739. To discover Perth’s local history, art and nature, we also recommend a trip to Perth Museum and Art Gallery, Its changing programme of temporary exhibitions means there is always something new to see. Art lovers will also enjoy visiting The Fergusson Gallery, named after Scottish artist and sculptor, John Duncan Fergusson. This gallery holds his vast collection of art work, along with the archive of his wife Margaret Morris, a dancer and painter.

Parks and Walks

There are lots of wonderful green spaces in Perth, perfect for walking and relaxing. Walk up Kinnoull Hill for stunning views over the city and beyond. Discover a peaceful haven of plants and trees at Branklyn Garden. Or, enjoy a stroll along the River Tay in South Inch Park.

At the end of the day, you’re just a drive away from your lovely Loch Lomond lodge. Where you can relax in the hot tub up after a busy day in picturesque Perth.

Testimonials

  • Such a beautiful setting

'Myself and my partner recently stayed in Drummond Lodge (from 21-24 Feb) and we just wanted to say thank you so much for a lovely stay. We loved our lodge, it was like a home from home, and we really didn’t want to leave! It was spotlessly clean and in such a beautiful setting. All the staff we met were really friendly. We also loved Balmaha, what a wonderful village. So thank you very much! We are the couple that took Flynn for a walk and we took this photo of him... we thought you’d appreciate a copy. Thanks once again...

'The Most Perfect Day and The Most Perfect Venue! Where to start, I always knew I wanted to get married at Loch Lomond, just had to find the right venue and I was blown away with what The Waterfront had to offer. We got married in the conservatory due to typical Scottish Summer in July it decided to rain on our wedding day. I had my heart set on getting married outside on the loch so I thought I would be disappointed, however I am actually glad it rained in the morning, because it meant we got married in the...
