    A renewed federal partnership is needed to help the water sector recover stronger. Many environmental statutes have not been updated in decades, and the laws governing water predate modern challenges like climate change and growing income disparity. As part of the Recovering Stronger initiative, the US Water Alliance has created a blueprint for federal policymakers to help the water sector recover stronger. This blueprint showcases the water sector’s best legislative, regulatory, and administrative policy ideas to inform and shape early policy conversations and help policymakers understand where they specifically might be able to effect change.

    Over the course of several months in late 2019 and early 2020, the US Water Alliance and Water Foundation facilitated four regional roundtables to better understand the drinking water challenges confronting communities, and the ways that diverse stakeholders are driving policy solutions at the state and tribal level. This report shares the results of our roundtables, the great stories we heard, and the common elements of success we learned. The report also highlights the successful collaborations between community organizers, nonprofit leaders, public officials, utility managers, and funders, and features eight case studies that illustrate the power of cross-sector collaboration to define drinking water problems and co-create solutions.
