Urquhart Castle played a role in the Wars of Scottish Independence. Through conflict it was possessed by many Scottish clans over the centuries. Urquhart Castle was partially destroyed in 1692 to prevent its use by Jacobite forces. In more modern times it is a tourist attraction on the banks of Loch Ness.

Drumnadrochit, Scotland - June 23rd, 1997: Castle Urquhart beside Loch Ness is one of the most famous and iconic castles in Scotland, particularly because of its associations with sightings of The Loch Ness Monster. The Castle was destroyed in 1692 and is now under the protection of a Government sponsored body, Historic Scotland, that maintains Ancient Monuments for public access.

As we walked down from Drumnadrochit to Urquhart Castle which is a 3km walk, the scenery was fantastic, It was a cloudy day and the walk along the loch ness was amazing. Here is a view of Loch ness surrounded by hills and meadows. The scenery is breathtaking. The 3km walk was the highlight. Glad that we didnt drive down.
