An ancient medieval city,
In 843, following the Treaty of Verdun between the three grandsons of Charlemagne, the city of the Protestants at the time of the wars of religion. After the annexation of Franche-Comté at the end of the 17th century, it lost its status as a border town and finally experienced calm. More recently, the village distinguished itself in 1978 with Valéry Giscard d'Estaing's "good choice" speech.
Appreciated for its famous pôchouse, a culinary specialty based on freshwater fish, the town also attracts visitors with its historical heritage.
