A picturesque Scottish village has been named second-best in a list of the top UK staycation destinations to relax and unwind.

Killin in Stirling beat out the likes of Windermere in Cumbria and Thurlestone in Devon to be rated in second behind Watermillock in Cumbria as one of the best locations for a wellness stay.

The data analysis by I’m Insured took the UK locations appearing in Tripadvisor search results for the term 'relaxing', and ranked them on a number of factors to reveal the best places in the UK for a quiet, relaxing, wellness break.

Surprisingly, Killin was the only Scottish village named in the top 20.

The I'm Insured research took into account the destination’s population to see how remote it is, whether the air is fresh and how much green space there is to enjoy.

The analysis also looked at the lack of signal to make it easier to digitally detox, the number of wellness activities nearby, and the number of rentable two-person Airbnbs with a hot tub.

Described as an "idyllic highlands village to escape to and disconnect from technology", Killin was lauded for being remote and tranquil, and for having one of the highest green space scores.

A spokesperson for I'm Insured said: "The remote village of Killin sits at the Falls of Dochart - a spectacular series of rapids, offering stunning views. Famous for its salmon fishing, wildlife spotting, and water sports, this is the ideal relaxing, outdoor getaway.

"Killin allows you to explore the great outdoors in the vast amounts of green space - it truly is the perfect place to escape and switch off.

"Scotland is packed with other relaxing treasures... Brodick, Stobo, and Pitlochry also rank highly in the top places for a wellness break."
