Emma Roberts just welcomed her first child! ICYMI, Emma has quietly been in a committed relationship with actor Garrett Hedlund for almost two years now, and he’s the father of Emma’s new bb.
While you’re out here like, Wait, who is Garrett?? the good news is there’s *some* intel about Garrett out there on the internet so we can sleuth and get all the deets get an idea about what he does, what his interests are, and who he’s previously dated. Let’s dive riiight in.
Garrett’s a Virgo
Starting off with the most important details, obviously—Garrett was born on September 3, 1984!
Garrett and Emma started dating in March 2019
Ah, let’s take a brief walk down memory lane, shall we? Garrett and Emma first made headlines as a couple in March 2019 when they were spotted holding hands while on a walk in Los Angeles. At the time, reports claimed their relationship wasn’t anything too serious and they were just having some good ol’ fun.
“Garrett and Emma have been friends, but this is new, casual, and just a couple of weeks old,” an Us Weekly source said at the time. Although Garrett and Emma just welcomed a baby, as of January, they were apparently “not talking an engagement or marriage at the moment…they like hanging out and going out together, and their relationship is more fun than serious.”
Garrett’s an actor
Garrett hasn’t appeared in many high-profile movies recently (which, understandable, considering how many sets are being shut down), but in the 2000s and 2010s, he managed to secure some roles you may remember.
Garrett was in the mythological war drama Troy alongside Brad freakin’ Pitt for his first feature film, which ain’t too shabby! He also starred in Georgia Rule with Lindsay Lohan, Friday Night Lights, Tron: Legacy, and Country Strong. Garrett has appeared in 17 (!) other movies and took home the Young Hollywood Award for Actor of the Year as well as Maui Film Festival’s Rising Star Award in 2011. So, yeah, he’s the ~real deal~.
Garrett dabbled in modeling when he was younger
Well, if you count modeling L.L. Bean backpacks in the early aughts as true modeling, LOL.
Did I mention that Garrett knows how to sing?
In Country Strong, Garrett had to learn how to sing and play guitar for the role of Beau Hutton, a janitor by day and a singer-songwriter by night.
Garrett has been linked to a couple of famous actresses
Garrett worked with Gossip Girl’s Leighton Meester in Country Strong, where they reportedly struck a connection with each other. At a 2011 Golden Globes after-party, Garrett and Leighton sparked serious dating rumors. “They were hanging out by the bar laughing and talking very close for a long time,” a source told E! News at the time. “He had his hand on her back and she was just looking up at him, smiling ear to ear as he was leaning down and whispering something to her.”
“At one point, they turned around and snuck a kiss,” the source added. “But as the night went on, they didn’t exactly hide their affection for each other. They were all over each other! They seemed really happy.” Nothing much came of these rumors, sadly.
But Leighton’s not the only actress Garrett was linked to in the past—he was in a whole four-year relationship with Kirsten Dunst from 2012 to 2016. 😱 Garrett and Kristen met in 2011 on the set of the film adaptation of Jack Kerouac’s On the Road and he previously shared how he won her affections. “I took her out on a 3 a.m. canoe ride,” he said to Details. “It was not a stable canoe. We fell out and had to swim back in mucky, shitty water, like golf-pond water.”
There were rumors of Kristen and Garrett possibly getting engaged, but that didn’t last very long—they obviously split before that could happen and now he’s happily dating Emma.
Garrett likes to read and write
In Details, Garrett revealed that he is an avid writer. “I spill it out as fast as I can. I don’t really edit,” he said. “In Brazil, recently, I wrote 70 pages. In London, 80 pages.” *swoon*
Garrett also shared he was a bookworm back in his high school days and would often hang out at his local bookstore for fun. “I’d hang out at the Borders Bookstore until it closed and then I would stick the book back on the shelf until the next day. That was safe. No one was going to buy three copies of [Charles] Bukowski’s Tales of Ordinary Madness by the next afternoon.”
Fun fact: Emma loves reading so much that she founded Belletrist, an online book club. Safe to say this is one of the many things she and Garrett have in common!
Garrett’s not on social media
He used to have a Twitter account but it stayed pretty inactive. He followed a grand total of two people on it—Tim McGraw and Kirsten Dunst. It doesn’t look like Garrett has an Instagram either *sobs*. But just because Garrett isn’t on social doesn’t mean he can’t make the occasional appearance on Emma’s accounts! Case in point: Emma’s throwback pic of herself getting ready to attend the Met Gala.
Emma confirmed her pregnancy at the end of August and posted a picture to her Insta, in which Garrett makes a super-cute surprise appearance:
Garrett can pick out onesies for his baby now
Just in case Emma’s Instagram confirmation didn’t make it abundantly clear, she is having a baby boy! So yes, this means Garrett can go ahead and hit the “buy” button on that “my dad is #1” onesie now. Congratulations to these two on parenthood!
