Lady’s Itinerary for 2 Days in Stratford-upon-Avon

Today I want to bring you my guide to how to spend 2 days in Stratford-upon-Avon, England. This town in Warwickshire is synonymous with Shakespeare, and spending a couple days in the area is a great way to take in the highlights. From restaurants and theater to shops and historic landmarks, there’s a lot to see and do here.

2 Days in Stratford-upon-Avon

With 2 days in Stratford-upon-Avon, you can see Shakespeare’s houses (and those of his family), explore the historic heart of the town, and go to a performance by the Royal Shakespeare Company.

You can also indulge in Stratford’s food and drink scene, which can be enjoyed most notably at its historic pubs.

Day 1 in Stratford-upon-Avon

I’ve traveled to Stratford-upon-Avon by train with a friend. We arrive in the early evening just in time for a drink and dinner.

Leaving the station, we walk to a local pub called The Vintner and settle in for the evening. The place has great ambiance, friendly service, and good food and drinks.

After dinner, we check into our hotel and get settled in. We can’t wait to discover the best of the town the following day.

Day 2 in Stratford-upon-Avon

The next morning we set out to explore Stratford-upon-Avon. We start by walking around the historic streets, many of which are full of half-timbered buildings from the Tudor era.

We walk by Shakespeare’s Birthplace and Shakespeare’s New Place, and duck our heads into the 13th-century Guild Chapel as we go.

From there we head over to the River Avon, where we have lunch at The Dirty Duck. This classic pub is popular with actors from the Royal Shakespeare Company.

We tuck into a meal of steamed mussels, chicken pies, and open-face sandwiches at a table by the window. It’s pure pub bliss.

After lunch our 2 days in Stratford-upon-Avon continue as we walk along the river. We take in white swans and stroll around Holy Trinity Church, where The Bard was baptized.

As evening sets in, we head to dinner at Lambs, a restaurant on Sheep Street that I remember enjoying when I spent a weekend in Stratford-upon-Avon. Dishes of pan-fried halloumi and sea bream with curry sauce go down a treat.

After dinner we walk over to the Royal Shakespeare Theatre to see a performance of The Magician’s Elephant. It’s a musical full of fantastic events and life-size animals, and we enjoy the evening of entertainment.

Following the performance, we head back to our hotel to get a good night’s sleep before heading to the train station for our journey back to London.

It’s been a great stay, and we’re glad to have had 2 days in Stratford-upon-Avon to see the highlights.

2 Days in Stratford-upon-Avon

We could have stayed longer, too. There are lots of country walks around the town, and I would have loved to explore more of the Warwickshire countryside on foot.

But there’s always next time. And I’m sure next time will come sooner than later. I hope the same is true for you.
