Judd, Munsell Sign To Play Collegiate Football

WAYNE – Ashton Munsell and Daniel Judd held their signings at Wayne High on Tuesday, February 21 and Wednesday, February 22 to sign with Dakota Wesleyan and Southwest Minnesota State to play football at the next level.

Munsell, wide receiver, corner back, and linebacker for the Blue Devils,  was second on the team in rushing yards with 217 and 2 rushing TD his senior year.  Munsell led the team in tackles with 87 total tackles, averaging 9.7 a game, and three tackles for loss in 2022.

Munsell signed with the Tigers from Dakota Wesleyan and said Mitchell, South Dakota has a great community and that was a big reason why Munsell chose Dakota Wesleyan.

Munsell is coming off a fourth place finish at state wrestling, competing at the 145 pound weight class.  Munsell said David Carr, his teammate on the wrestling team, has been a big driver for him to compete in every sport.

Munsell talked about the influence of his dad in helping him compete at such a high level through his high school career.

Munsell joins three other Wayne High players moving on to the next level to play college football, Daniel Judd, Sedjro Agoumba, and Alex Phelps, and is proud to be apart of that group playing college football.

“Everyone works hard, but there is always those select few who stand out to the coaches and I’m glad I’m one of them.”

Munsell will play defensive back at Dakota Wesleyan and will major in sports exercise wellness.

Daniel Judd rounded off the players signing to play college football with his signing to Southwest Minnesota State.

Judd will join Alex Phelps and Sedjro Agoumba in the NSIC but in a different uniform.  While all will play on the offensive side of the ball, the trio have had conversations about playing against each other and Judd said it will be fun to see his former teammates on the field with him.

Judd registered 369 yards on 29 catches with 4 touchdowns in the 2022 football season for the Blue Devils.  On the defensive side of the ball, he registered 68 total tackles with 4 tackles for loss.  Judd was selected to play in the Northeast Nebraska All Star Football Classic alongside Alex Phelps and Sedjro Agoumba this summer on June 10.

Judd is also the leading scorer on the 18-7 boys basketball team who is in a sub-district final against Winnebago.

Judd will be going into education at Southwest Minnesota State and looks forward to the opportunity to play football at the next level.  All of Judd’s coaches and teammates have been big inspirations in his steps taken to play football at the college level.

“Some great friendships, my best friends still from last year that graduated are in college now, still best friends with them.  Best friends this year on the team, just a lifelong bond we’ll always have.”

Judd will major in education in Marshall, Minnesota and will suit up as a tight end for the Mustangs this fall.
