The Asia Culture Centre presents Argentinean artist Tomás Saraceno’s solo exhibition, Our Interplanetary Bodies, in Gwanju, Korea. This is Saraceno’s first exhibition in South Korea. The exhibition is especially planned for Asia Culture Center’s Space 1 (2,317 square meters, 16 meters high). The installation is composed of 9 gigantic, spherical sculptures emitting subtle light. Real-time movement of cosmic dust in the air is displayed in a video projection, and this movement is also transformed into an audio-spatial experience.
How are we embedded as a part of the cosmic web? Can we consider an insect and the vibratory cosmos in the same network of relationships? What are the possibilities for better attunement? How do we fly with our feet on the ground?
Our Interplanetary Bodies appeals not to science fiction or fairytale fantasy, but to the possibility of realizing a utopian vision for the not-so-distant future. It explores the cosmic becoming and more-than-human relationship through an organic and poetic consilience of different disciplines.
Contemporary artist Tomás Saraceno is best known for his large-scale, interactive installations and floating sculptures, and for his interdisciplinary approach to art. Initially trained as an architect, Tomás Saraceno deploys insights from engineering, physics, chemistry, aeronautics and materials science in his work.
