A Faryab man ran off and joined the Taliban recently after allegedly cutting off his wife's nose, police said Monday.

The man, from Ghormach district of Faryab, apparently fled immediately after the incident, said Sayed Aqa Andarabi, Faryab's police chief.

He said the crime was committed in Shar Shar village of Ghormach district.

According to Andarabi the woman was taken to hospital by her relatives and is currently receiving treatment.

Andarabi put the incident down to domestic violence.
