Chris Colfer Is Shocked as His “Glee” Cover of ‘Rose’s Turn’ Hits Top 3 on Billboard Charts 14 Years Later: 'What Is Happening?'

Chris Colfer started the new month on the Billboard charts!

Colfer's cover of "Rose's Turn" from the Broadway musical Gypsy, featured in season one of Glee, has entered the Billboard TikTok chart at the number three spot.

The actor couldn't help but ask on X, formerly Twitter, "What is happening??????" since it has been nearly 10 years since the show's final curtain call in 2015.

Fans replied to the tweet by writing that the song is getting a new level of attention thanks to TikTok.

One social media user wrote "as long as TikTok exists glee will never go extinct." Another commented, "The magic of TikTok baby."

The cover track began its resurgence on the platform after Colfer singing, "All that work, and what did it get me?" began to be used as an audio for videos.

The music trending on the social media app also began to change after Universal Music Group announced that their contract with TikTok was ending on Jan. 31 and that they had not come to an agreement during negotiations.

"In our contract renewal discussions, we have been pressing them on three critical issues—appropriate compensation for our artists and songwriters, protecting human artists from the harmful effects of AI, and online safety for TikTok’s users," the company wrote in an open letter.

Universal Music Group is home to many major music labels including Republic Records, Island Records, and Def Jam Recordings.

The failure to agree caused songs from artists like Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo, and Drake to be pulled from TikTok in early February. However, covers from Glee, like Colfer's recording of "Rose's Turn," remain available on the social media platform.

On Wednesday, TikTok released a statement confirming that more music would be removed from their app.

"We are in the process of carrying out Universal Music Group's requirement to remove all songs that have been written (or co-written) by a songwriter signed to Universal Music Publishing Group, based on information they have provided. Their actions not only affect the songwriters and artists that they represent but now also impact many artists and songwriters not signed to Universal," their statement read.

The company ended its statement by expressing that they are "committed to reaching an equitable agreement with Universal Music Group."
