Cuban Singer Mayra Veronica on cover of Billboard

Mayra Veronica sat down with Billboard Magazine to discuss her latest single ‘Freak Like Me,’ which is cur-rently climbing Bill-board’s Hot Dance Club Songs chart, and the up-coming release of her second studio album, ‘Saint Nor Sinner,’ Kelly Mahan reports.

Born in Havana, Cuba, and raised in the Unites States, the 31-year-old entertainer began her career as a model, which led to a co-host position on Univision’s popular ‘Don Francisco Presenta.’
Music had always been a passion and Veronica’s dream was realized with the release of her debut album, ‘Vengo Con To,’ in 2008.
“That my career happened to have started as a model or sex symbol has nothing to do with the fact that I’m also able to express myself as an artist.” Veronica said in an interview with Billboard Magazine.
“I grew up with musicians. My father acquired much fame in Cuba as the singer of a rock band [Los Dada], and we had rehearsals every day at my house,” the pop songstress added.

Her highly synthesized track is the first release off of her much-anticipated second studio album, scheduled for release next year. Various remixes of the single were released to US Clubs in July and the original is planned to hit airwaves soon.
“The original track is completely a pop sound,” she explained to Billboard Magazine. “The remixes incorporate a lot more of a club feel that you [also] hear on dance radio.”

With six high-profile USO tours under her belt, the ‘Freak Like Me’ singer is sure to show American listeners that there is more behind her music than just sex appeal.

“I’m bringing stories you can question or relate to,” Veronica said. “I plan on inspiring you to free yourself from inhibitions – that’s my goal as an artist…I’m bringing my soul, and not just my voice.”
