Mars, Inc. has introduced a new purple character to its lineup of M&M's, but not a new purple color of the popular chocolate candy.

Aptly named "Purple," the new female character is coming aboard to help the company "represent acceptance and inclusivity," according to a news release.

It's M&M's first new character in a decade. The company said Purple's confidence, "keen self-awareness," and authenticity give the character a "quirky nature."

“Mars is thrilled to debut the newest member of the M&M’S cast of characters to the world. There is so much about our new spokescandy that people can relate to and appreciate, including her willingness to embrace her true self – our new character reminds us to celebrate what makes us unique,” said Jane Hwang, global vice president at Mars Wrigley. “Our purpose story is just getting started and the introduction of our newest M&M’S spokescandy is the next chapter, as the brand continues to delight fans with fun in a way only M&M’S can.”

Purple has already released her first music single and video, “I’m Just Gonna Be Me,” which can be seen below.

Purple's foray into the music world is all for the nonprofit "Sing for Hope," which "harnesses the power of the arts to bring hope, connection and purpose to millions of people around the world through music."

The song is on all major platforms, M&M's says, and for every stream, the company will donate $1 to "Sing for Hope," up to $500,000.

Purple joins, Yellow, Red, Orange, Blue, Green, and Brown in its colorful lineup of promotional characters.
