A baby boy was born at 12:18 am via Caesarean section on January 1, 2024, at Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, UT. He is the first baby of the New Year born at an Intermountain Health hospital in Utah and is the first-born son of Yasmin Valdez and Victor, residents of Salt Lake City.

“He is a miracle baby. He had complications with the umbilical cord and needed to be born by 37 weeks, so labor was induced,” said Valdez. “And I have spinal issues, a neurological condition that occurred 11 years ago called Cauda Equina which has left me with limited use of my ankles and feet.”

Valdez was not expecting to become pregnant and saw a maternal fetal medicine specialist at Intermountain Medical Center’s high-risk obstetrical clinic during her pregnancy.

“I had amazing care, I love every nurse, doctor and person I came in contact with at the hospital,” she said.

The baby boy weighed in at 7 lbs. pounds and 8 ounces, which coincidentally is the same weight as his mother weighed when she was born. He is 20 inches long.

More than 3,300 babies were born at Intermountain Medical Center in 2023.

The new parents received a prize basket from Intermountain Health to celebrate the New Year's birth which included generous donations from three Utah-based baby product vendors: Minky Couture; Loulou and Company; and Over the Moon.
