Pearly papules or hirsutoid papillomas, also called Tyson's glands are small whitish or pearly bumps, totally normal on the head of the penis or crown of the glans penis.

They are more visible in between 20-30% of the male population. There are occasions where these papules emerge and they mainly constitute an aesthetic problem. They are absolutely normal, and are often confused with papillomas or Human Papilloma Virus (HPV).

These benign formations are NOT and have nothing to do with HPV. It is important to let the
patient know that these pimples on the penis should not be touched or treated as they disappear naturally over the years.

However, sometimes for aesthetic reasons the patient wants to remove them. They can be removed by burning them with an electric scalpel (electrocoagulation) or with cryotherapy. But you have to be careful since these treatments could leave sequelae mainly if there is not proper healing.

In conclusion, the message is that these papules are normal and that the preference is to leave them as they are.

Don’t treat them.
