Madeira Airport in Portugal has been forced to close its doors recently. The reason behind the closure of the Cristiano Ronaldo International Airport is quite scary. Just some time back, a smoke alert was reported in the cargo area of Ryanair airline and this is the primary reason behind shutting down this Portugal airport. Want to know what really happened here? Here’s Why Madeira Airport Has Been Shut Down

The scheduled plan was for an aircraft to fly to Lisbon from the Madeira Airport International Cristiano Ronaldo. The scheduled timing of the flight to take off from the runway was 3:15 PM, according to a report by The Portugal News. While all the work was going on before the take-off, people detected a smoke alert there. Passengers were on board the aircraft already during that time, according to a report by Diario de Noticias de Madeira. They somehow felt the unusualness and understood that something was wrong.

After the flyers detected the peculiarity prior to the takeoff, the airport commander issued the incident to the control tower. Soon the fire department of the Madeira airport got involved with this scenario.

There Have Been Some Flight Cancellations As Well

Shutting down the Madeira Airport International Cristiano Ronaldo is not the only news to take a look at here. This airport often makes headlines for news related to the cancellation of flights. More than 10 flights had to face cancellations here in the month of June this year, according to a report by Schengen Visa Info. The airport cancelled about 15 flights between arriving and taking from here, according to a report by Madeira Island News. Along with all these issues, there have been some incidents where passengers had to face problems of late cancellations too. In the past some time, this airport came across different kinds of issues but nothing was as serious as the recent smoke alert. This led to the closure of the airport ultimately.
