Digestive SystemThe Piglet Squid is a newly discovered animal so nobody is too sure what they eat, but with a syphon-like mouth it is believed that they are filter feeders that eat plankton.

Circulatory SystemThe piglet squid moves like any other using jets and fins to propel itself. Piglet squid release waste through their anus and out the siphon. Gas exchange occurs through the gills or the lining of the mantle cavity.

Nervous SystemThe Piglet Squid have extremely complex nervous systems. Their nervous systems are made up of two larger nerve cords that connect to masses of ganglia.
There are two pair of main nerve cords and the dorsal pair. Since Mollusks are usually flexible and able to twist into many different ways, these nerves have unique configurations. Another adaptation that they have is a Chemoreceptive sensory organ that analyses water currents. |
Reproductive SystemIt is not said when the mating process of the squid is, although, the process for attracting female squids begins in the mornings. Around dawn they can be seen swimming rapidly in very large circles. The females join this swimming which initially can seem strange and out of control. However, as time goes by you start to notice that they start to swim in pairs. The males have changing colors, which attracts females to them.
Thousands of eggs can be produced at a time by one female. It isn't known how the eggs develop in the squid body. Most the eggs never end up becoming offspring due to being eaten by predators. they reproduce sexually. |
