Flash in the sky....
Red sprites and Blue Jets look like something you would find in a sci-fi movie. A red sprite is an enormous red flash high in the sky that has a wide ring-shaped "body" and trailing "tenticles". A blue jet is a bright blue spark that zooms upwards. These sights have been spotted by telescopes late night, planes or space craft. They both appear above thunderstorms. They are caused by electrical energy and linked by lightning strikes. They are considered to be a type of lightning. It's possible to see Red Sprites and Blue Jets from the ground, if you're in a place where you can see a long way and have a good view of a far away thunderstorm. If you want to spot them, look high above a thunderstorm.
